Teddy the spoodle outdoors

For as long as Chloe could remember, her spoodle Teddy had battled constant vomiting and reflux, as well as runny poos. As Teddy neared his tenth birthday, she wanted to make sure he could maintain his active lifestyle as he entered his senior years, so she decided to try a change of diet for her picky pup. Since trying Lyka, Teddy has had loads of energy, and his tummy issues have completely disappeared.

Meet Chloe and her sweet spoodle, Teddy

Chloe has had Teddy since he was a puppy, and he seemed to know that Chloe was the fur mama for him right away:

“Teddy chose me. We had another little puppy picked out, but he was bounding up at the gate like a mad man and practically leapt into my arms when it was opened for him. From that moment we knew we were meant for each other.”

Chloe is a teacher, and takes Teddy to work with her every day, where he has made plenty of friends:

“I will often turn around and he is sitting on a student’s lap soaking up a cuddle or laying his head on the table paying attention. He will also often just wander off down the hall and visit various classrooms and the office staff. Nothing funnier than when you hear his little feet sprinting down the hallways.”

Teddy is also known for his affectionate nature, and love for bubbles:

“Teddy is obsessed with bubbles. And I mean obsessed. He will chase them for hours. He also licks constantly. He will just lick the air. The vet said the only two ways a dog can show love is to wag their tail and lick, so I’m pretty okay with it. He obviously just has a lot of love to give!”

Teddy’s gastro grumbles

During the years he was eating dry and wet food, Teddy had experienced regular reflux after meals, and even used to vomit up his whole meal regularly. He was also an extremely fussy eater, and would not eat food from his own bowl, although he would gladly take leftovers from Chloe’s own plate. No matter what food she tried, Teddy would still not want to eat.

Chloe wanted to give him the best possible chance at living a long, healthy life. As they live an active lifestyle, Chloe also wanted to make sure that she was giving her pup all the nutrients he needed to keep him fuelled for walks and activities, and to keep his bones and organs healthy.

Chloe decided to try cooking Teddy’s meals herself to make sure he was eating high-quality ingredients, as she was worried that the food recommended by the vet was too highly processed. However, as a vegetarian, she struggled with cooking up the meat for her dog. Then, she found Lyka:

“Lyka stood out to be as it was highly personalised, I loved the family feel of the business and the ethos behind why Anna created it for Lyka. Many of her frustrations echoed mine. I found the information completely transparent, and could see the genuine passion all the Lyka team have for dog health. This made me feel really safe trusting them with Ted’s nutrition. I also loved supporting a strong female led Australian small business.”

The transition to fresh food

Since transitioning onto Lyka, Teddy now has no more issues with vomiting and reflux, much to Chloe’s relief:

“His reflux and vomiting issues are completely gone! He genuinely has not had one full or bile vomit since we made the switch. I’m honestly amazed. This in itself would be enough for me to rave from the rooftops about Lyka. Ted often has really loud and bubbly digestive noises, these have completely stopped. He would vomit bile at least once a day and completely vomit up his food at least 5-10 times a month. This has completely stopped. His poos are now regular and always appear much easier for him to go. They aren’t runny at all anymore.”

Not only has his tummy health improved, Chloe has also seen improvements in his fur and breath, and noticed how much energy he has:

“Being a spoodle, his hair can get matted when it is long. I have noticed he can go longer in between grooms now as his hair is so silky, he’s not getting as many knots. His breath is far less smelly, which is a huge thing given how much he licks and wants to be all up in your grill. He is still able to keep up with marathon length walks and runs with me, and seems like a little energiser bunny that could just keep going and going. The vet is always shocked when she realises how old he actually is.”
